Gateway of India
One of Mumbai's most famous monuments and landmarks is the Gateway of India. In order to celebrate the first visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India in 1911, the building of the Gateway of India began in 1911 and erected to commemorate the landing in India of their Imperial Majesties King George V and Queen Mary on the second of December MCMXI, the gateway has an inscription.
The gate is located on the Apollo Bunder highway, overlooking the Arabian Sea in southern Mumbai. Another iconic landmark is the historic and luxurious Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, located across the street from the Gateway of India. Little known is that the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel opened nearly 21 years before the completion of the Gateway of India.
